2011 emmy predictions - comedy

These predictions might be a little better in that I actually watch most of these shows.  Or maybe they won’t be.

Best Comedy

Think: Modern Family - I mean, it won last year.  And it’s a freaking hilarious show.  I kind of expect it to win.

Want: Parks and Recreation - This show is hilarious and amazing!  I’m so happy it got some love this year.  Every character is hilarious (except Ann) and all of the story lines are great.  More people need to watch this show so that it can always have more than the 16 episodes it had last season.

Best Actress in a Comedy

Think: Laura Linney - It was down to her and Edie Falco, but her show is about having cancer.  I kind of feel like that gives her a leg up.

Want: Amy Poehler - She is an absolute genius on Park and Rec.  I really want her to win.  Though I did love Martha Plimpton on Raising Hope, but I don’t think enough people watch that show.  Even though it’s hilarious and quirky.

Best Actor in a Comedy

Think: Steve Carell - This is a gamble.  I’m betting on the Emmy voters to be sympathetic that it was Steve Carell’s last season as Michael Scott.

Want: Jim Parsons - Just like last year, he deserves to win this.  If they don’t give the award to Carell, I fully expect Jim Parsons to win.  This last season, he gave Sheldon more layers than we would ever expect from Sheldon.  It’s a brilliant performance.

Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy

Think:  Betty White - Everybody loves Betty White.  That’s pretty much what I’m going on.  I’ve never watched Hot in Cleveland, so I don’t know if she really should win.  But it could be a tight race between her, Jane Lynch, and Sofia Vergara.

Want: Sofia Vergara - She’s freaking hilarious on Modern Family.  I don’t think Jane Lynch was as amazingly hilarious this season on Glee.  So, I think Vergara deserves it this year.

Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy

Think: Ty Burrell - I would say Chris Colfer, but he wasn’t in as many episodes this season on Glee, and when he was they weren’t funny episodes.  And how could I not bet on someone from Modern Family when they make up 4 of the 6 nominations?

Want: Ty Burrell - I love all of the guys on Modern Family, but Burrell makes me laugh the most and the loudest.  I still think Neil Patrick Harris should have been nominated this season for How I Met Your Mother.  He would have, in my mind, won.

And that’s all of the predictions I’m going to make.  It’s all of the major categories anyway.  Let’s see how bad I do on Sunday!!
